Temple Emeth Events, Happenings, and Special DatesFamily Shabbat Service at 7:30 pm. - March 5, April 2, May 7 and June 4. Please contact the Temple office for more information. Friday Nights - Shabbat Service at 8:00 pm. On the second and (when applicable) fifth Fridays of the month, Temple Emeth services take on the character of the Reform Movement, with a balance of Hebrew and English, a wide variety of melodies old and new, and a sermon by the rabbi or a guest speaker. On the fourth Friday of the month (in October, November and December), our services focus more closely on our relationships with God. Shabbat Morning Services - Every Saturday morning at 10:30 am, prececed by Torah Study at 9:10 am.
This year, as part of the URJ's Shabbat Initiative, Temple Emeth's Shabbat Morning Task Force has scheduled creative special services for Saturday mornings. They include: February 20, 2010 - Poetry Shabbat. Bring your favorite poem and we will work it into our worship service. March 6, 2010 - Guitar Service. Temple members Wendy Kosakoff and David Kohane combine their talents on the guitar with Cantor Tilem's voice for a unique and uplifting service. March 20, 2010 - Learner's Service. Part service, part class, worshippers are encouraged to become "students of prayer" asking questions during the service and learning in depth about one aspect of the liturgy. March 27, 2010 - Pulpit-Pew Dialogue. Part of the service is set aside to discuss an issue of contemporary interest, to read some traditional texts on the topic and to allow participants to share their views. Our topic for March 27 is Judaism and the Environment.
April 17, 2010 - Shabbat for All. Building on the success of our first Shabbat for All in December, our theme for April will be Israel. The day will include Torah Study, 3-4 worship opportunities, lunch, a review of the itinerary for our February 2011 congregtional trip to Israel, and a discussion on religious freedom in Israel. Shabbat Music Service at 8:00 pm. February 19, March 19, April 16, May 21 and June 18.The festive service includes the 8-member Temple Band and encourages congregant participation in singing, clapping and even dancing. Please contact the Temple office for more information. Tot Shabbat Services - 9:30 am. February 20, March 13, April 17 (at 10:30 a.m. as part of Shabbat for All), May 15 and June 12. Bring your very young children to sit on the Bimah while Cantor Tilem leads favorite Shabbat songs and prayers. Rabbi Sirbu makes an appearance to tell a story, and the service is followed by bagels for all. Please contact Karen Sacks or the Temple office for more information. Wednesdays, Lunch and Learn with Rabbi Sirbu at 12:00 noon - Every Wednesday (except on Jewish and secular holidays).
