Kol Emet — The Temple Emeth Adult Choir

The Temple Emeth Choir has been around nearly as long as the congregation. Its name, Kol Emet, means Voice of Emeth or Voice of Truth.

Under the direction of Jacqueline Guttman and accompanied by James Chiappini, our core group of about 20+ swells to nearly 30 voices for special occasions like the High Holy Days or the annual Choir Festival. We sing in 2 to 4 parts, even though not all choir members can read music; sometimes we sing together with flute, violin or other instruments.

Thinking you'd like to sing? We'd love to have you!

There are no auditions to join Kol Emet and all are welcome. Choral singing experience is helpful but not necessary. Those who are new to a choir find that, after a few weeks of bewilderment, things start falling into place. Choir members are always happy to help one another and Cantor Tilem is available to lend her support and vocal "tricks of the trade."

NEW! In order to help non-readers learn their music, Kol Emet now has a password-protected site on www.emeth.org, from which choir members can download some of our more challenging pieces. Over time, the list of selections is expected to grow considerably.

Kol Emet meets most Wednesdays, at 7:45 p.m. While it is understood that not everyone can be at rehearsal every week, it is anticipated that members will attend a minimum of 3 rehearsals for each service at which the choir sings. (On occasion, special arrangements are made for very experienced music sight-readers or professional musicians.) We have an interesting year ahead including a special program on Shabbat Shira, on Saturday, February 4th. Please direct choir inquiries to jguttman@nj.rr.com.

Kol Emet is a welcoming group and a great place to make friends if you are a new member of Temple Emeth. We also make beautiful music together!
