Social Action in Action

The Social Action Committee supports, via education and various activities, organizations and concerns that reflect our Jewish values and help us to work toward repairing the world or tikun olam. Here are some of our projects:

  • We conduct High Holiday and Passover food drives, as well as Mitzvah of the Month collections throughout the year
  • Temple Emeth serves more than 100 people twice a year at a walk-in dinner for the homeless in Hackensack.
  • Temple gardeners grow food, which is contributed to a local food pantry.
  • Temple Emeth hosts homeless families in conjunction with Family Promise Shelter Program.
  • Our environmentalists annually clean up Windsor Park.
  • Social Action has been involved in local activities including, the Sanctuary program, oil train concerns, and prevention of gun violence.
  • Temple Emeth is a HIAS Welcome Congregation and a Religious Action Center (RAC) Brit Olam participant.
  • We also support the Reform Jewish Voice of New Jersey (local RAC organization) and, this year, once again, participated in Legislative Advocacy Day in Trenton.

Members of Temple Emeth gather before attending a Rally for Humanity in support of #FamiliesBelongTogether.

It takes a village to sort the food from Temple Emeth's High Holidays Food Drive.
