Get Ready for Purim at Temple Emeth!

Shalach Manot Packing - Thursday, March 14 from 1:00 to 5:00

Join us to pack the Shalach Manot packages on Thursday afternoon, March 14! Come any time between 1:00-5:00 and stay as long as you can. Older children and teens who are collecting community service credits are especially welcome (and younger ones with parents). This is always a fun and congenial event, and is an especially lovely way for new members to meet people.

Purim-spiel - Friday, March 15 following Shabbat services at 8:00 p.m.

Our enthusiastic cast will retell the Purim story with a Rock & Roll theme. When Vashti is expelled from the palace, she stomps out to "Hit the Road, Jack." When Ahasuerus falls in love with Esther, their nuptials are celebrated in the Chapel--I mean Palace--of Love. Da Du Ron Ron as quickly as possible to the Social Hall Friday so you don't miss a thing.

Adult Education: "How Do We Understand the Violence in the Bible?" taught by Rabbi Sirbu - Sunday, March 17 from 9:00-10:00 a.m.

The Book of Esther retells harrowing violence perpetrated by the Jews against their enemies. It is not the only such scene. The Bible has wars, massacres and mob violence. Do we dismiss these stories as reflective of a different time and sensibility? Or are there other lessons we can learn as we struggle with a sacred text that so often glorifies the kind of acts we shun today? Join Rabbi Sirbu for a spirited discussion prior to this year's Purim Carnival.

Purim Carnival - Sunday, March 17 from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

After an hour our Religious School students will be dismissed into the Social Hall for the Purim Carnival, led this year by the teens of ETC Mitzvah. Kids get to play games and win prizes. Everyone can be part of the Purim spirit.

Purim Service and Megilah Reading - Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Don your costume, grab your grogger and join us to hear how brave Queen Esther defeats the wicked... what's his name again? Etz Chayim will sing at the service. The evening will include a presentation about the new URJ Six Points Creative Arts Academy.
